1904: 2 c. green and 8 c. slate & violet, used on a 1907 10 c. violet registered stationery envelope, size H2 (H&G 5c), from Hong Kong to Saigon, Cochinchina, dated 4 April 1908, addressed to 'Commander Saunier, Captain of the Redoutable', from a 'French Man of War', cancelled by a 'Registered-G.P.O.Hong Kong' double circle in black. To the reverse an arrival cds 'Saigon Central / Cochinchine' in black (11 April 1908). Soiled and some care worn creasing and wear, otherwise fine. A rare stationery envelope and interesting usage.
Note: The French Navy ship the Redoutable was a central battery and barbette ship. She was the first warship in the world to use steel as the principal building material.
