1846 (Sept 6): Long entire letter written "In Harbour" at Constantinople to Roxburg, Mass., USA disinfected by slits, mailed via Malta with reverse showing oval framed "Received and Forwarded / P.E. Eynaud & Co. / Malta" Forwarding Agent's cachet in blue (Sept 15), thence via London with "Paid" cds in red (Oct 3) and "1s." prepaid via Liverpool where endorsed "p. Caledonia" (Cunard steamer) with "BOSTON / SHIP" transit cds (Oct 21) in red and "7" credit marking in red. An unusual usage that opens well for Exhibit display.
