Auction 333-341 Australian States & Commonwealth of Australia and New Zealand – The ‚KOOYONG‘ Collection - Day 2

1909 (July 1): Group of six printer's sample miniature complete sheets of nine for the 1 c. in black & deep blue, 2 c. in black & red-brown, 8 c. in black & blue-green, two examples of the 10 c. in black & sage-green and also 18 c. black & blue, perf 12½, each stamp with small security punched hole and all with "WATERLOW & SONS LTD. / SPECIMEN" overprint in black (Type WS1). Additionally, comes with a single of the 3 c. black & bistre, perf. 12½, with the same punched hole and specimen overprint. Fine and scarce selection.
Note: The 2 c. black & red-brown is rarely seen, while Samuel in 1976 wrongly listed the colour as 'claret' it may be because he had not seen an example.
