1850: Sydney View, 1 d. orange-red on soft thin yellowish paper, Plate 1, an unused block of twenty-three - the complete sheet less the two stamps at lower right, positions 24-25 - together with a lower right corner marginal example from position 25 being one of the two Proofs originally excised, leaving just position 24 to be found; the Plate Proof multiple showing full sheet margins nearly all round, positions 23 and 25 just shaved, position 18 with closed tear and several pressed creases but of no significance as the impression is of strong vibrant colour and is, without doubt, the largest multiple extant (the other large multiples of this Proof are of six and nine, sold together in the Corinphila 'Besançon' Sale I in November 2017, lot 6005) and thus this is a multiple of the foremost importance to both New South Wales and classic philately. A phenomenal Exhibition frontispiece for the connoisseur. Cert. BPA for position 25 (2006).
Provenance: The multiple ex collection John Hutson, Spink, London, 19 Feb 2013, lot 10.
