Niger Coast Protectorate Oil Rivers 1892: Postal Stationery Card, 1 d. vermilion, used from Catford (London) to Kirkburton, Huddersfield, England, dated 26 September 1913, cancelled by "CATFORD S.O.S.E" double circle datestamp in black. Very late use and scarce usage of the Oil Rivers stationery within Great Britain (H&G 2). Has a very interesting message on reverse which reads: "I am posting this card to you as a curiosity. It was one of a large number bought at the Post Office on the African coast by an officer in the merchant service, who thought they would acquire a high value from a philatelist's point of view. They did not so he kept them by him until his death when his exor tried to get face value refunded. They were out of date for this but the Post Office admit that they can still be used as postage stamps."
