British Protectorate Oil Rivers 1892: Registration Envelope, 2 d. ultramarine, size H2, used with 1892 5 d. purple & blue, overprinted "BRITISH PROTECTORATE / OIL RIVERS", sent from Bonny to Ottensen, Germany, dated 8 May 1893, tied by the double ring parcel postmark "BONNY" in black, with "BONNY RIVER" cds alongside. Endorsed "per Steamer Benguela", also a transit mark "REGISTERED LIVERPOOL" oval dated 1 June 1893. Arrival to the reverse "ALTONA / OTTENSEN" dated 3 June 1893, minor creasing, in the main fine, fresh adhesive, rare; one of only four recorded usages (H&G C2b).The additional franking of a 5 d. was the rate for letters up to 1 oz. to U.P.U. countries.
