Auction 333-341 Europe & Overseas - Day 5

1856: 6 d. blue, wmk. Large Star, imperforate, a horizontal pair with large margins all round but shaved at right, showing portion of adjoining stamp at base, used on 1864 cover to Lowestoft, Suffolk endorsed "Paid" at lower left, cancelled with two red manuscript pen strokes on despatch and "11" pence in crayon manuscript credit to GB below. "London / Paid" cds in red (Feb 25) and Lowestoft arrival on reverse of the following day. The adhesives sensibly treated to reduce sulphurisation otherweise a fine and extremely rare first issue cover. Cert. BPA (2007).
