lot # 40063 - 1948 Emergency Post
1948 Jerusalem siege period couriered mail: cv ex female in J'LEM to female in TLV, franked 10m at letter rate using J'lem 2nd Locals Ba105; couriered to TLV where posted 23-6-1948 (per Hebrew date) - franking accepted though invalid outside J'lem after 22 May. J'lem postal siege ended on 23 June but courier mail continued into July-August. Cover possibly carried via 'Burma Road' though 2 light circular h/s marks on back are of size used by the Army APO/Base pmks, suggesting it may actually have been flown by Army post (to TLV): though lacking markings by one of 4 known authorizing bodies for privileged civilian airmail, unauthorized mail also known sent by air (then posted locally in TLV); opened gently at back, with vertical fold as is typical of courered covers.
