Romanticism emerged in the late eighteenth century in reaction to the rationalism of the Enlightenment. W. Wordsworth and other Romantics emphasized the vitality of everyday life, the importance of human emotions, and the illuminating power of nature. (Adapted from the New World Encyclopedia™).
