Obverse: Menuhin playing violin; Latin legend "YEHUDI MENVHIN ÆT. SVÆ. L" ('Yehudi Menuhin at the age of 50'), with date in Roman numbers; Vincze's name in exergue. Reverse: classical Roman images of teacher and pupil; Latin legend "CHI NON ARDE NON INCENDE" ('He who does not burn does not set alight'); Vincze's name in exergue. Menuhin (1916-1999) was a Jewish violinist and conductor, considered one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. Vincze (1907-1994) was an acclaimed Jewish artist and medallist; JMM p.79. Obv.: shaded shape of Israel (per 1949 borders) within circle, emitting rays; Hebrew/English leg. "For out of Zion shall go forth the law (Isaiah 2 v3)] # Jerusalem". Rev: a globe device split into segments to highlight the business calendar dates of Jewish holidays, with vertical legend in center "1959 Holidays 1960". The token may have been commissioned by a Jerusalem-based Yeshiva - but the use of Gregorian dates (and not Hebrew dates) seems unusual for a Yeshiva. Obverse: emblem of the Taba exhibition, with Hebrew legend around "National Stamp Exhibition # Haifa 5712 1952". Reverse stamped with the name "Shmuel Lachman" - may be the same person who authored several important articles in the Israeli numismatic world on Ottoman coinage in the 1960's and '70s. This medal was probably issued to participants who exhibited stamp collections at the fair. In UNC-BU; some surface dirt (polish?). Obv.: British coat of arms; Heb. leg. below, "Kadosh Israel Malkeinu" (Holy Israel Our Lord). Rev.: Star of David w/Heb. words "Atem Edai" (You are my Witnesses). Believes that Western & Northern Europeans, esp. the British, are direct descendants of the Ten Lost Israelite Tribes, and that the British Royal Family is directly descended from King David. Obverse bears name of the Jewish New Year's prayer (in Hebrew) at top, "Tashlich", and the prayer in Hebrew continues on the reverse, with Hebrew date 5577 [1816-1817] at top and Kohn's name in Latin letters below the prayer. With reeded edge and beeded rim; medallic strike. Aaron Kohn was among the first of the German Jewish medalists whose work was entirely of Jewish themes with text engravings in Hebrew; JMM-61. This is a commemorative version of original 'Congressional Gold Medal' instituted in 1985 to posthumously honor the Gershwins; in 2007 the Library of Congress named its annual silver medal "Prize for Popular Song" after them.
