lot # 401 - united states draped bust cents
1803 S-247 R3 F15. A "Mumps" variety. Sharpness closer to VF20 but there are a few small contact marks scattered over the obverse, none distracting but too many to ignore. A short, light horizontal scratch in the field before the throat is the best identifying mark. Glossy medium chocolate brown with slightly lighter steel brown toning on the devices. Sharply struck MDS, Breen state II, with strong die clashmarks arcing through the denominator. The crumbling at the throat (the so-called "Mumps" break) is obvious.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
