British Protectorate 1815-1864 1854 (July 20): Military Concession rate entire letter from "Citadel Barracks, Corfu" to Glasgow, with "1" penny prepaid in red manuscript near badly struck "♚ / PAID AT CORFU" in black. Endorsed at top from Corporal William Anderson 1st Battalion 71st. Highland Regiment of Foot and correctly countersigned at base. Carried on P&O "Tiber" as mentioned in the contents. David James, No. 8 Company 2/4th Regiment to London, concessionary rate paid by Great Britain 1 d. red tied by London "30" numeral obliterator on arrival and showing duplicated strike at right, counter-signed by Commanding Officer at lower left. British Protectorate 1815-1864 1859: Perkins Bacon Die Proof struck on white card (49 x 73 mm.), engraved in black with the head plate added into the vignette, with pencil notation "shews insertion of head" below. Some trivial soiling, this being a working Proof. Unique in private hands, a further example being housed in the collection of His Majesty Charles III, most attractive.

British Protectorate 1815-1864 1859: Perkins Bacon imperforate Plate Proof block of four, engraved in black, ample to large margins all round, without gum on medium thick paper. Scarce.

Issued Stamps 1859 (June 15): The album page with 2 d. carmine used with  'unreadable' handstamp in red, possibly an over-inked Triest '6' transit marking (cert. Simmermacher, 1967); a further 2 d. carmine with "Corfu" cds in black (9 Dec 1861), the set of three values all used with manuscript pen crosses; and pairs of the 1 d. and 2 d. with 'cancelled to order' undated Corfu markings in blue. Fair to fine, a rare seldom seen group.

'1'; all in unused corner marginal blocks of four, the ½ d. with some slight oxidisation as usual, the 1 d. and 2 d. each from lower left of sheet, all with large part og. A most attractive set.
