Lots & Collections, Stampless Postal History, 1820/1859, transatlantic mail to the United Kingdom, with roughly sixty covers, displaying a wide range of rates, routes, and postal markings, noting 1820 letter to London with "Three Rivers" straight-line despatch strike on front, 1821 from Montreal to Scotland with good strike of boxed "GREENOCK / SHIP LETTER", 1822 New Brunswick to London with two-line "COWES / SHIP LETTER", 1835/36/37 letters from Toronto to London via New York (2) and Boston (1) with boxed "PORTSMOUTH / SHIP LETTER", 1838 Montreal to Scotland with black "LIVERPOOL / SHIP LETTER", scarce 1838 usage from Prince Edward Island to Edinburgh with boxed "1/2" tax mark in green struck in Falmouth, 1840 partly prepaid letter from Fredericton to Suffolk via the Falmouth Packet "Seagull" (ex Booth), 1841 and 1843 letters to Scotland with lovely strikes respectively of Drummondville and Haldimand U.C. double-circle c.d.s., 1849 from St. John to London showing a late example of the 1/2s. rate a month prior to the reduction to 1s., 1850 letter from Flos to Scotland, 1852 letter from Quebec to Baltasound, Shetland, 1853 "Too Late" cover from Guelph to Nottingham, 1858 Copetown to Dublin with two-line "BY CANADIAN / PACKET", 1859 St. Stephen to Liverpool with fine "MORE-TO-PAY" in red (ex Montgomery), includes four examples to Ireland, condition varies as expected in a collection of this size, but overall a carefully-selected group with great diversity, ideal for expanding into a more detailed study of ships, rate markings, etc.
