1861/64: 2 d. blue, clean cut perf. 14-16, 1864 1 d. bistre and 6 d. indigo-violet, all used on local registered cover addressed to "His Excellency Governor Hampton" in Fremantle all tied by Bowra circle and bars numeral "8" obliterator with corresponding "FREEMANTLE / WESTERN AUSTRALIA" cds below (March 22) and equally fine "♚ / REGISTERED" handstamp in black. Manuscript acknowledgement of receipt at right (same day). A delightful and very rare mixed issue three colour franking.
Note: The Postal Rate for Town Letters handed in for local delivery, had been 1 d. since 1840. The Registration fee, which had been 1 shilling since 1847 was reduced to 8 d. for inland letters on 1st April 1866.
