1856: 6 d. lilac, plate 1, used on cover with 1862 9 d. bistre, plate 2, lettered GA, without hair lines, from Sheffield to San Francisco, USA, dated 31 January 1862, tied by Sheffield '700' sideways duplex in black, with 'San Francisco Paid' circular datestamp alongside (18 March 1862). To the reverse a Manchester transit cds in black (1 February) and a Doron Azouri Collection owner mark. Some minor imperfection. A rare combination. Four examples of the 6 d. and 9 d. combined on cover are recorded in the Karl Louis card index. The 9 d. is scarce on cover SG = £ 850+.
