1840/1841: Group of seven early line engraved stamps on covers, comprising five franked with 1 d. blacks, all but one with four margins, includes a 28 May use and three examples dated June 1840, lettered HC, IF, OE, QC and QL, all with fine to very fine Maltese Cross cancels in red, also an 1840 2 d. blue, lettered PD, with large margins, on cover from Glasgow dated 10 March 1842, cancelled by a black Maltese Cross and an 1841 1 d. red, lettered DL, with huge margins, on cover from Godalming, mixed condition with filing creases and some toning, although in the main stamps are fine to very fine, a valuable and useful lot.
