Sainte-Pierre-et-Miquelon 1885/91: Gothic "05 / SPM" on 40 c. rose-red on yellow, imperforate, a horizontal pair used on 1886 formula card addressed to Whitfield King in Ipswich, tied by ST. PIERRE - MIQUELON cds (Jan 16) in black with information strike at left. Fine philatelic message on reverse: "I beg to inform you that I have on hand a lot of all the handstamped stamps of S.P.M. that I will sell you at reasonable prices. I can sell you the monopoly of some off them. On the other side sample of 05 on 40 for which you will please send me your price list...". A rare and most appealing usage. Signed J.F. Brun.
