France: 1856/96, covers (9) mostly to Amsterdam, though note others to Maastricht, Leeuwarden, and the Hague, including several different frankings on covers from Paris, one 40 c. orange single franking underpaid and struck "AFFR INSUFF"; striking 1853-60 20 c. strip of six on cover with "17" Paris Star cancel; 1862 4 c. pair on very fine wrapper with printed circular, bearing 1½ c Leeuwarden triangular foreign tax mark; two different 20 c. Bordeaux on 1871 cover prepaid to Amsterdam, one signed Calves; two 1871-3 15 c. and 25 c. frankings on prepaid covers from Lille; and 50 c. Sage single franking on registered Egyptian Cigarette Manufactory cover from Port Said, some small faults, but a chiefly fine group, an ideal nucleus for a detailed rate study.
