French Post Office in Tripoli of Syria 1852 (Sept 5): Unpaid Entire letter from Tripoli to London, dated inside, struck by clear cursive handstamp of “Tripoli / de Syrie” in black (Pothion = 32 points). Reverse with “BEYROUT SYRIE” (Sept 17) transit cds in black and LONDON arrival cds in red. A rare cursive handstamp with Great Britain being a very rare destination.
Note: The post office in Tripoli was opened in September 1852 following Pothion.
