Woldenburg POW Camp (Oflag II-C) 1942 (Nov 8/11): The set of three imperforate Essays prepared as a competetive entry during the Philatelic Exhibition held in the Camp, in order to find new designers; three lino-cut designs inscribed "1492-1942" with 5 f. in deep blue showing the "Santa Maria", 10 f. brown showing the Capitol Building in Washington and 20 f. black showing a contemporary US Destroyer, the prize won by the designer Pazda - although the German authorities were none too happy as the US was by then at war with Germany. See page 4 of "The Polish Prisoner of War Camp Posts" by Autolycus (Howard Longden). Fine and rare, just 200 sets were printed.
