New York, 1846, Signed 2 page letter in Spinner's hand, Francis Elias Spinner was an American politician from New York. He was Treasurer of the United States from 1861 to 1875. The letter includes various interesting statements including “NYS 5% Stock is now above par....lowest rate that they have been Sold for.....was a contrivance of the "Bearz", and "I returned from Washington yesterday... the Governor Yell says "Arkansas not worth ane damn"… Etc… Interesting and historic context. Early date for a Spinner letter. VF

Contains split archivally backed. Brochures exhibit minor toning. Included are speeches delivered by Hon. James A. Garfield, of Ohio: “The Currency” outlines his abhorrence for fiat “paper” money; “The Campaign of the Reserve”. July 31, 1872; “The New Scheme of American Finance” March 6, 1878; Speech decrying the Weaver amendment. Its declaration that “all currency,.....should be issued and its volume controlled by the Government, and not by or through the bank corporations of the country". These items are financially significant views in our nations fiscal and financial history. “What is old is new again…”
