Nerva. Silver Cistophoric Tetradrachm (10.2 g), AD 96-98. Rome, for use in Asia (?), AD 97. IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M TR POT P P COS III, laureate head of Nerva right. Reverse COM ASI across field, distyle temple set on three-tiered base with ROMA ET AVG on entablature containing cult statue of Augustus standing facing, holding spear and being crowned female holding cornucopiae. Cf. RIC 122 (ROM); BMC 79; RSC 14a. Rare. Nicely toned and quite pleasing. Very Fine.

Valerian I, AD 253-260. AE Sestertius (18.7g), minted at Rome, c. 256-257. Laureate, cuirassed and draped bust right of Valerian I. Reverse Victory standing left, holding palm. RIC 180; C. 228. Struck on typical squarish flan with dark brown patina. Very Fine.

During the mid AD 3rd century, sestertii became increasingly minted onto squarish or straight-edged planchets. Since these did not fit the circular inscriptions, more and more letters were lost off the flan.
