Lot 455 - united states classic head cents - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #841814 S-295 R1 Turban Head, Plain 4 G4. Double Struck Reverse Brockage Maker. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. No defects, just worn. This cent was struck two times with both strikes centered on the planchet but rotated maybe 5 degrees between the impressions. The doubling is obvious to the unaided eye on the obverse but the reverse shows only a single strike. In addition the reverse is bulged outward a bit which is typical of cents that were struck against a blank planchet during a second strike (in this case creating a reverse brockage on the second planchet). As a result the reverse shows considerably more wear than the obverse because it was slightly convex and had no protective rim. A neat mint error. Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Covered with uniform extremely faint granularity under a slightly glossy dark olive brown patina. The highpoints are toned in a lighter shade of steel brown and the eye appeal is decent in spite of the microscopic roughness. No verdigris but there is a scuff of faint hairline scratches from the cheek down to the bottom of the neck, all blending perfectly into the toning. Struck 10-15% off center to K-1.5. The date is bold and the legends are strong except for those parts that are off the planchet. Our grade is F12+ sharpness net VG8. The Off Center Mint Error and Holmes provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #84united states classic head cents |
