lot # 363 - united states draped bust cents
1800/79 S-194 R3 Overdate 80 over 79, Style II Hair VG10. Glossy medium chocolate brown delicately mottled with slightly darker olive brown. No roughness or verdigris, only minor contact marks. The notable ones are a thin diagonal nick on TE in STATES and another inside the top of the wreath. LDS, Breen state VIII. An irregular cud break extends from the second A in AMERICA to slightly beyond the fraction and reaches up to the second 0 in the denominator. Another cud break reaches inside the dentils over the C in AMERICA. This is the plate coin for state VIII in the Breen encyclopedia. The upper part of the reverse is softly struck while the lower half is bold. The date and legends are complete and clear, and the overdate feature is obvious to the unaided eye.
Estimated Value $200-UP.
Ex Chris McCawley-Doug Durasoff 8/2007-Ed Leitner.
