lot # 897 - united states liberty cents
1856 N-13 R2 Italic 5 VF30. Sharper by at least 5 points but there are too many light nicks scattered over the obverse for the higher grade. The notable marks are a dull pinprick midway between stars 1 & 2 and another near the dentils over star 3, plus a dull diagonal nick over the right top of the N in ONE. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Nice eye appeal in spite of the minor marks. Rare TDS, die state e, with a large, strong rim cud break from star 9 to star 11. Tied for CC#5 of 20 known in this die state according to the Grellman census. Removed from an NGC slab graded AU58BN (NGC label #308061-016 included, and it shows the attribution and Reiver provenance).
Estimated Value $200-UP.
