lot # 622 - united states liberty cents
1846 N-5 R2 Repunched Date VF35+. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with slightly darker chocolate brown toning on the lower part of the reverse. Frosty mint luster shows in protected areas on both sides. No notable marks. A tiny swipe of lighter tan toning on the end of the wreath ribbon can help identify this cent. Nice for the grade, close to EF40. Extremely rare TDS, die state i, with clearly defined rim cuds over STATES plus narrow rim cuds from star 10 down to star 13. The repunching on the date is weak but still visible, clearest under the base of the 1. CC#2 of only 6 known in the terminal state in the Grellman census. Removed from an NGC slab graded AU58BN (NGC label #308005-012 included, and it shows the attribution and Reiver provenance).
Estimated Value $300-UP.
Ex Jules Reiver, Heritage 1/24/2006:20236-Daniel W. Holmes, Jr.-Chris McCawley 5/2011-Doug Durasoff.
