POINT / BEARING" cds (May 26) both in black. Carried on the "Nemesis" to Suez with circular "COL. FRA. / V SUEZ AMB." cds in red (June 10) with Rennes arrival (June 13) and charged '8' décimes to pay in manuscript.

1864/74: Incoming unpaid entire letters (4) to Mauritius from France (2) or Reunion (2), with 1864 entire with "10 / TO PAY", 1865 entire with "1/8d." to pay (dopuble rate), 1871 entire ex Reunion with "8d. / TO PAY" in blue, and 1874 entire ex Reunion with "ship Letter" and "3d." charge marking in blue.

1853/55: 1 d. bright orange-vermilion, early impression, position 4 on the plate of 12 subjects, a used example with good to huge margins all round, neatly cancelled by circular numeral "2" of Flacq in black. Slightest of thins in margin at base not impinging on the design, a choice and most attractive example of this very rare stamp. Cert. BPA (1963) Gi = £ 8'000.

1853/55: Post Paid 1 d. orange-vermilion, early Impression on yellowish paper, position 1 on the sheet of 12 subjects, a fine appearing example just shaved at right and with three reasonable margins for this stamp, cancelled by two strikes of framed "PAID" handstamps in black. A rare stamp. Cert. Oliva (1959) Gi = £ 8'000.

1859: 1 d. orange-red on bluish paper, latest impression, a used example with large margins all round, cancelled by complete strike of the mute obliterator handstamp in black. Fine and scarce Gi = £ 800.

1859/77: Sherwin 2 d. value, Royal Philatelic Society Reprint sheet printed in black on soft 'Japanese' paper, the "Lt. E.B. Evans" reprint made from the original plate when first found in 1877, the plate being donated to the RPSL by George V and later defaced. Some minor creasing but very few sheets are recorded thus. 1829/1997: Group of covers/cards (69) with 1829 entire to France with mss. Le Havre Forwarding Agent notation on reverse, 1863 cover from GB to Mauritius with 6 d. lilac, taxed "4½d." on arrival in red, 1864 entire with 4 d. rose to Réunion, 1867 cover to GB with Mauritius 2 d. (2) and 6 d. with "9d." credit marking in red, 1880 incoming cover from Belgium, 1887 trimmed stampless cover with rare "26c. / TO PAY" handstamp in black, 1891 reg'd...

1842 (June 22): Entire letter from John Donald in Glasgow to the Island of Tanna, Reverend Henry Nisbet correspondence, without postal markings - the contents state "being aware that a box is going out to you", with good will messages to both Mr. and Mrs. Nisbet and fellow missionaries the Turners. Both couples were landed on Tanna from the London Missionary Society ship "Camden" at the end of June 1842 and after a difficult period were...

1943/52: Covers (4) with 1943 cover with 'France Libre' 5 c. green and 15 c. violet (Yvert 124+126) to USA with bilingual circular "Passed By Censor" in violet; 1945 cover with 30 c. boue from Port Vila to Australia with "Opened by Examiner / DDA 107" label, 1951 small visiting card envelope with 10 c. orange from Vila to Tauna with card enclosed; and 1952 cover with 10 c. orange to USA with Reseals and "Received in Damaged Condition"...

1857/764: 1 s. scarlet-vermilion, a used example on thick machine made paper, with large margins all round and lightly cancelled, but with shallow hinge thin, pinhole and corner crease not greatly detracting from the delightful appearance of this rarity. Cert. BPA (1995) Gi = £ 9'000.

1855 (Jan 6): Entire letter from Lagos to Genova, charged initially at "1/-" in manuscript, mailed via London where framed "COLONES / ART. 18" applied in red (only applied on mail from West Africa in 1856; Van der Linden fig. 775). Thence via Calais with Ambulante cds on obverse (Feb 6) and Paris to Genova where charged "17" centesemi due upon delivery. A rare entire.
