Auction 333-341 Western Australia & Great Britain - Day 3

1854: 6 d. dull lilac, embossed, touching base and side otherwise good to huge margins, used on cover in combination with 1856 6 d. deep lilac, from Bristol to Greenfield, USA, dated 9 December 1856, tied by Bristol '134' sideways duplex in black, alongside a red small type octagonal Liverpool 'L' packet mark (10 December) together with two New York handstamps, one a 'Paid/24' circular (25 December - Christmas Day arrival) and a '21/cents' mark also in red. There are five vertical filing creases, two are not obvious and one running through the top margin of the embossed which also has a corner crease. The 6 d. deep lilac has some pulled perfs. at top otherwise a very fine cover which retains its visual appeal. Rare. One of three covers recorded with a mixed franking of the 6 d. embossed and its 6 d. successor.
