1804 (June 8): Entire letter from Maranhão to Lisbon, Portugal endorsed "Intrepid" at lower left, struck on despatch with fine "MARANHAO" straight line handstamp in black with "80" reis rate in manuscript at top. Slight acid ink in address but a very scarce and very fine early entire.

1844 (Dec. 22): Entire letter from Rio de Janeiro to Geneva, Switzerland endorsed "pr. Rose", struck on obverse with fine "OUTRE-MER / LE HAVRE" in red (Feb. 24) and rated "9" in red manuscript. Rewverse, opening well for display with "Geneve" cds of receipt (Feb. 27) in red. A scarce destination at this date.

1851 (April 10): Entire letter from Rio de Janeiro to Oporto endorsed "p. Medway", struck with fine "♚ / PAID AT / RIO DE JANEIRO" in black and carried at double rate with manuscript "2/-" in red. Reverse with poor double arc "RIO-JANEIRO" cds in black. Struck with framed "P. BRIT" in blue on arrival and handstruck "540 + manuscript 80 = 620 reis" due to pay, the 80 reis due for the Lisbon - Porto leg of the journey. Disinfected by two chisel...

British rate in manuscript on front of "1/4d." due to pay, myriad manuscript rates thereafter. A most unusual entire. Ex the Brian Moorhouse estate.

The letter is roughly opened with part of the flap and front missing. Despite the usual wear and tear an outstanding 'DOM PEDRO'...

1843/1879: Collection of sixty-five used classic stamps including a very respectable intermediate impression 60r 'BULLSEYE' signed Thier, a cut close 90r 'BULLSEYE' with later stamps on a large stock card all in mixed condition.

1843/1930: Collection beginning with a complete 'BULL'S-EYES' set, the 30r being worn impression, the 60r early impression and the 90r an intermediate impression, all with minor defects. Then a good range later issues with a fine 1854 430r yellow used. A good range of Pedro II and later issues, as well as five better covers round of this fine lot.
