lot # 6949 - German Empire German Empire - postal stationery
Postal stationery card 2 Kreuzer with additional franking 1 Kreuzer green each with EKr. "MANNHEIM 10.11.73" as underfranked card with boxed cancel "Unzureichend frankirt" and handwritten tax marking "20" (cents) to Vlaardingen, Netherlands with arrival postmark on face in good overall condition. The correct postage for letters and cards up to 31 December 1874 was 7 crosses, the franked 3 crosses were calculated at 3/4 (groschen) (pencil mark 3/4), but as this was converted to less than 5 cents, the postage paid was not credited. Instead, 20 cents, the postage for insufficiently franked covers and postcards, was collected from the addressee. Very few cross postcards to the Netherlands are known, and this one is of delightful appearance as an attractive postage-paid card
