178: 1 d. red, plate 213, in combination with 1881 1 d. lilac, 1884 ½ d. slate-blue and 2½ d. lilac, used on cover from London to Villengen, Baden, Germany, dated 10 August 1885, three stamps tied by a London E.C. hooded circle and one stamp (1 d. lilac) tied by London Hoster machine cancel in black. To the reverse an arrival cds in black (12 August 1885). Some tone spots, otherwise fine. Rare; only four examples of the 2½ d. lilac used in combination with non-contemporary stamps are recorded, one of which is philatelic.
