1849 (May 11): Entire letter, franked with two 1847 5 c. red brown, mostly good to large margins, left stamp touched at top and bottom frameline, tied by two strikes of blue “10”, sent from Charleston, South Carolina to Amsterdam, Holland, manuscript 1/4d. British due marking and manuscript "100" (Dutch) cents at centre, struck with circular blue “Wilmington & Raleigh RR” route agent’s mark, sender’s “p. America & New York” route directive, carried via the Cunard “America” which left New York on May 15, arriving in Liverpool on May 28, with transit cds and two-line “Engeland / Over Rotterdam” backstamps, small tear at top, a scarce cover.
