lot # 2616 - türkei vorphilatelie
Austrian Post Office in Smirna 1864: Entire letter from Smirna to Strankowitz, Bohemia via Prague, struck with fine SMIRNE datestamp (12/9) of Consular P.O. in black (Tchilinghirian fig. 4), sent unpaid with erroneous usage of framed "6¼" silbergroschen marking in Trieste and deleted with further strike (Van der Linden fig. 3092) and replaced by fine strike of framed "7¼" (Silbergroschen) handstamp in blue (Van der Linden fig. 3107). Reverse with Prague handstamp and Stankowitz arrival (Sept 22) cds. An unusual cover - the error occurred probably as this is the earliest recorded usage of either rate handstamp. Letter from James van der Linden accompanies.
