Spain: Seville Mint Philip II (1556-1598) cob 2 Reales, c1597, assayer B (CC type 279, 475-6; Cb.667; Yr.527). Mintmark, assayer's initial & denomination all clear, flan clipped. VG. Coins from mainland Spain are scarce from this wreck. Western Australian Museum Certificate no 3207 (which attributes the coin to Mexico in error). With WA Museum sale permission. (P)

They are believed to have belonged to the crew or passengers & were not part of the coin hoard recovered from the broken treasure chests. Very attractive. (P)

This coin would have been part of money in the possession of passengers or crew, not from the treasure chests. Struck Segovia 8 Reales are very rare, such a cut coin is possibly unique. (P)
