classic head half cents - Coin Auctions
Lot 158 - united states classic head half cents - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #841809 C-1 R7+ (as a die state) AG3. A couple points sharper but covered with light to moderate roughness on all but the highpoints, which are smooth. No verdigris. The only mark is a dull dent in the center of the obverse that caused a faint bulge in the center of the reverse over EN in CENT. The date is strong and the legends are complete except for UNITED, which is mostly worn away or lost in the roughness. The highpoints are glossy light steel brown and tan while the protected areas are a darker shade of olive brown and chocolate. Extremely rare late die state, Manley state 3.0, with a strong cud break connecting MERI to the rim. The reverse is rotated 30 degrees CCW. One of only 4 or 5 examples known with the cud break and a major die state that was missing in the fabulous Missouri Cabinet Collection, the only complete collection of half cents by die variety ever formed. A very important piece for the specialist. Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #84united states classic head half cents |

Lot 190 - united states classic head half cents - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #841834 C-1 R1 ANACS graded AU55. Clipped Planchet. Very attractive frosty light olive brown and chocolate. Sharply struck with just a hint of friction on the highest points of the devices. The only defect is a short, light scratch from the bust tip to the field close above star 1. EDS, Manley state 1.0, before any die clashmarks. An incipient rim clip weakens the dentils over RI in AMERICA. Our grade is AU50. The "Rim Clip," insignificant as it may be, is noted on the ANACS label. Lot 175 - united states classic head half cents - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #841825 C-1 R3 ANACS graded EF40. Rotated Reverse. Slightly glossy medium steel brown and chocolate fading to chocolate brown in protected areas. Smooth and attractive, essentially flawless except for some minor dirt. A tiny hairline scratch under the 5 in the date is the only notable mark, and it is trivial. Sharply struck MDS, Manley state 2.0. The vertical crack from the dentils through the head to the curl on the neck is clear and the reverse is rotated 155 degrees CW from a normal head-to-foot die orientation. Our grade is VF25. Lot 191 - united states classic head half cents - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #841835 C-1 R1 PCGS graded MS63 Red, CAC Approved. Lustrous bright mint red just starting to fade to light steel brown with 75% of the red remaining on the obverse and 95% on the reverse. The only marks are some tiny specks of dark toning on the obverse and a significant carbon spot between the date and star 13. Otherwise this piece is a gem and the reverse is flawless. Housed in an old green-label PCGS holder. E-MDS, Manley state 1.0, with light die clashmarks on both sides. The reverse is rotated 25 degrees CW. Most likely from the Elmer Sears hoard that was discovered around 1935. Our grade is consistent with the PCGS grade. Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc.
