Recess by De La Rue from Perkins Bacon Plates 1864 (April 15): 6 d. dull violet, no wmk., perf. 13, a used example on 1866 cover to Huntingdon, tied by "8" numeral obliterator with corresponding "FREEMANTLE / WESTERN AUSTRALIA" cds at right (Sept 28) in black. Carried on the "Elora" to Galle, the "Simla" to Suez and the "Ripon" from Alexandria via Malta, arriving Southampton on 17th Nov, with same day Huntingdon arrival cds on reverse. Some ageing at base of cover but scarce.
