lot # 8236 - bavaria stamps
9 Kreuzer yellow-green, 2 single values, both fresh colours and large margins, with three clearly closed Mühlrad-cancel "160" and adjacent semicircle "KITZINGEN 6/12" (1851) on complete folded cover via France to Philadelphia. For the letter from Franconia, 24 Kreuzer postage would have been required in the 1st weight class; the 18 Kreuzer postage only applied to covers from the Palatinate, nonetheless marked "P.D." and carried without objection. An interesting and scarce early transatlantic letter.
