Lot 88 - united states liberty cap half cents - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #841794 C-4b R6+ AG3. Large Edge Letters. A couple points sharper but fine to moderate granularity covers the fields and protected areas on both sides while the devices are smooth. No verdigris, but there is a dull dent at AM that has caused a subtle bulge in the field over the end of the pole. Recolored a partially glossy dark bluish steel and olive brown. LDS, Manley state 2.0, with a die clashmark nestled between the upper edge of the cap and the back of the head. The date is clear and the legends are easily readable in spite of the fine roughness. The Large Edge Letters are strong except for the T in TWO and the E in HUNDRED, which are weakened by edge bumps. One of the rarest varieties of the series, very close to Rarity-7, and sure to command attention from advanced collectors of half cents. Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Lot 35 - united states colonials - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #841787 Connecticut Miller 39.1-ff.2 Rarity-6 VG7. Draped Bust Left. An AUCTOBI/ET LIR variety. Sharpness F12, even better in some areas, but the planchet has been banged up a bit and is slightly bent. No corrosion or verdigris. The notable marks are a rim dent at the bust tip and a planchet void at ET that obliterates those letters. The date is clear, and the AUCTOBI and LIR features are obvious. Mostly glossy light chocolate brown with slightly lighter reddish steel highpoints from a delicate cleaning. Weight 113.3 grains. Listed on page 62 in the "Redbook." Lot 3 - united states colonials - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #841652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling Noe-2 on Jumbo Planchet PCGS graded MS61. No Pellets at Trunk. Choice glossy light to medium steel gray and silver. Sharply and evenly struck on a thin "Jumbo" planchet. The planchet is not round, more of a wide oval-shape, and that resulted in the tops of a few letters being off the planchet while other places have extra planchet metal outside the border beads. Otherwise the only defect is a small planchet fissure at the border beads between the A & S in MASATHVSETS. The Oak Tree has unusually straight limbs and the Noe-2 is sometimes called "The Straight Tree" variety. A very attractive example of the variety, and the seldom-seen "Jumbo" planchet is a bonus. Weight 70.4 grains as listed on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer in 62 at PCGS. Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #84united states colonials |
