1811 (Feb 12): Entire letter from James Lawrie, Seamen on board the HMS Menelaus in Plymouth Sound, endorsed on reverse "H.M. Ship Menelaus, Plymouth Sound, 12 February 1811" and signed by the Commanding Officer - however wrongly placed and the letter charged "1/2d." to pay in manuscript. The "Menelaus", a supremely succesful frigate, was departing for the Indian Ocean and Mauritius to aid forces in charge of taking the Island, already achieved in December 1810. Some soiling but an unusual entire.
