French Post Office in Jerusalem 1873 (March 24): Envelope via Jaffa to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, struck by Jerusalem Cross / Croix potencée de Jérusalem in green blue (Steichele no 325 / Pothion = 35 points), “JAFFA SYRIE” cogwheel transit cds and oval "FR / 2F40C" accountancy mark, both in black alongside. Reverse with "BEYROUTH SYRIE", PARIS and LONDON transit in black, blue, and red, respectively. Tax marks in blue crayon partly erased, otherwise in very good condition. A rare destination, Livnat knows only four other pre-GPU covers with a Jerusalem cross to the United States. Cert. Muentz (1981).
