No roughness, only a few minor contact marks. The only notable mark is a light scratch arcing across the lower half of the neck. 1797 C-1 R2 Plain Edge, 1 Above 1 AG3. Double Struck off Center. Glossy medium chocolate brown in protected areas with lighter steel brown toning covering the devices. The planchet is mostly smooth and attractive but there are traces of reddish verdigris around UNITED. Basically just a well-worn half cent. The date is complete and easily readable, including the 1 Above 1 feature, but it is not strong. Double struck. The first strike was 20% off center to K-2 while the second strike was centered on the planchet. Obvious evidence of the first strike shows on both sides, strongest in the field before the bust and along the right edge of the reverse. EDS, Manley state 1.0, prior to swelling on the obverse. Weight 86.7 grains.
Estimated Value $300-UP.

1788 Connecticut Miller 16.4-L.2 Rarity-5+ VG10. Draped Bust Left. Off Center. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel blending to darker chocolate and olive brown in protected areas. No corrosion or verdigris, and the only marks are a few shallow planchet chips on the rim behind the seated figure on the reverse. Very late die state, the latest seen, with a massive die crack across the reverse plus an additional crack arcing down through the shield to the rim. A much later die state than seen in the Perkins or Ford collections. These dies were worn out. Struck slightly off center to K-4 leaving the date and parts of the legends off the planchet. The dies were in medal alignment, head-to-head rather than the normal head-to-foot orientation. Listed on page 62 in the "Redbook." Weight 116.2 grains.
Estimated Value $100-UP.
