French Post Office in Alexandretta 1871 (July 23): Shipmail Letter sheet to Marseille, bearing a pair Bordeaux 40 c. orange, a fresh and fine multiple with good to large margins in a deep vibrant shade, tied by decent Anchor lozenges in black, the left stamo in addition by framed "PAQUEBOTS DE LA MÉDITERRANÉE" handstamp in red, octogonal “ALEXANDRETTE / P. FR. X No 4” datestamp and framed PD handstamp alongside. Reverse with MARSEILLE arrival (Aug 3) cds in black. An exceptional cover, the franking paying correctly 80 centimes rate from the Levant to France, valid after July 1871.
