French Post Office in Smirna 1853: France 10 c. bistre and 40 c. orange, each with four margins, the 40 c. torn prior to application, used on 1861 single rate cover, one flap missing, from Smirna to Bordeaux, tied by 'Anchor' lozenge of dots with 'JOURDAIN' French Paquebot datestamp alongside (Sept 24). Framed 'PD' in black, small cartridge "Paquebots / de la / Mediterranee" in red at right and Marseille (Oct 1) transit cds on reverse.
