Woldenburg POW Camp (Oflag II-C) 1942 (Nov 28): The fine group of Essays and the issued stamps designed by Marian Stepien, the so-called "Torch" stamps commemorating the 1862 Uprising against the Russians; with Imperforate lino-cut Essays for proposed 5 f. in black, 10 f. in blackish purple and 20 f. in scarlet; further stamps as issued for 5 f. in carmine-red, one on piece the other used; 10 f. design in green on white wove (unused and used), a rare Essay or early example in pale turquoise-green rouletted at base (created from the margins of "Volkischer Beobachter" newspaper) and a further example optd. in red "5.2.1943"; and issued 20 f. bluish-purple "Torch" design unused and used examples on white or brown paper.
