lot # 50972 - British P.O. in Siam (Bangkok) covers
1883 (May 6) Envelope from the Count de Kergaradec while on mission in Saigon, addressed to Countess de Kergaradec in Angers, franked Sage 25c tied by "LINGE N / 6 MAI 83 / PAQ. FR. No 4" cds, with array of transit and arrival mkgs alongside or on reverse, a very fine and early out going cover. (Numbered "5" in crayon, being the code for each letter sent between the Count and the Countess)
Note: The count, as the captain of a frigate, was sent to Cochinchina on 1 January 1869. In 1875 he was made the French Consul at Hanoi. On 1 January 1882 he became principal administrator of external affaires in Saigon. The countess was with her husband from 1879 to 1883 before returning to France.
