ARAB-BYZANTINE: Standing Caliph, ca. 690s, AE fals (2.57g), Harran, A-3537, W-Vat.1, unusual type, unique to this mint, excellent strike, lovely Fine to VF, RR. The obverse inscriptions consist of muhammad to the left and the mint name to the right of the caliph, whereas the reverse bears a Greek monogram to the left and repeats the name muhammad in Arabic to the right. The Greek IS appears below the reverse, of unexplained meaning.

ARAB-BYZANTINE: Standing Caliph, ca. 690s, AE fals (2.72g), Iliya (Jerusalem), A-3545, Iliya right and Filastin left, both retrograde, plain bar below retrograde cursive m, with 4 tiny pellets in a row beneath, some porosity, VF, RRR. Cf. lot 233 in our auction #10 for a similar specimen with a row of 5 tiny pellets beneath the bar (but only the cursive m retrograde).

ARAB-BYZANTINE: Three Standing Figures, ca. 640, AE fals (5.24g), "year 17 ", A-3561, MIB-X45, clear mint KYΠP for Cyprus, clear date, but figure for 5 (which means 7 when combined with the two following "I " symbols) lies on its side, and the monogram for Heraclius is blundered, fabulous strike, choice EF, RRR. This seems to be a very early issue, possibly struck in Cyprus itself shortly after the Arab conquest, rather than in Syria, as...

ARAB-BYZANTINE: Three Standing Figures, ca. early 640s, AE fals (5.17g), "year 17 ", A-3561, MIB-X45, clear mint KYΠP for Cyprus, clear date, but figure for 5 incorrectly engraved, relatively early Syrian strike, officina Γ, lovely VF, R.

ARAB-BYZANTINE: Three Standing Figures, ca. 640s, AE fals (6.79g), CON, "year 1x ", A-3561, date left of capital M, officina Γ, last part of date obscured by weakness, VF, R. Struck on half a follis, with the corners sliced off, regarded by Foss as the earliest Arab-Byzantine coinage.

ARAB-BYZANTINE (Egypt): Anonymous, ca. 640s-650s, AE 12 nummi (1.90g), A-114D, D&B-UII, Foss-142, cross between two busts / O Ω above, with cross between, ΠOM below, Fine to VF, RR. Derived from Byzantine issue of Rome, actually mint undetermined, but found only in Egypt and believed to be an Arab issue.

ARAB-BYZANTINE:LOT of 4 different interesting and rare copper coins: A-3508 (Constantine IV style, VF, some corrosion), A-3509 (Justin & Sophia types, one Persian occupation style, Fine, one Skythopolis or Gerasa Arab type, Good), and one A-3512 (Three Standing figure type, Tabariya mint, Fine), lot of 4 pieces.

ARAB-BYZANTINE:LOT of 8 copper coins of the pseudo-Byzantine series, Imperial Bust type, capital M reverse, A-3506, enticing study group, all different varieties, Fine to Very Fine condition, some very attractive, lot of 8 pieces.

ARAB-BYZANTINE:LOT of 5 different early imitative Standing Emperor types with the "emperor " holding two long crosses, various different cursive m reverses, all Fine condition, discusssed by Foss (page 32), not yet assigned to a specific region, but Palestine is likely, lot of 5 pieces.
