 Lot 256 - united states liberty cap cents - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #841794 S-47 R4 F12+. Sharpness VF20 but lightly burnished and retoned glossy steel and medium chocolate brown. No roughness or verdigris and only a few contact marks. The notable ones are a rim bruise under the 9, a tiny rim bruise left of the lowest curl, and a nick just inside the dentil tips left of the lowest curl. Nicely struck EDS, Breen state I. Sharpness VF20 but there are a dozen small pits on the obverse, none distracting but too many to ignore. The notable ones are in the field off the tip of the nose. No verdigris and the notable contact marks are a fine vertical scratch on the neck, a nick on the top of the I in LIBERTY, and a pinprick on the E in STATES. Glossy light olive brown mixed with reddish chocolate. EDS, Breen state II. The two chips in the field under the cap are strong and the reverse is rotated 10 degrees CCW. A couple points sharper but dark and covered with microscopic roughness. No verdigris. The notable marks are an old scratch from the hair to the top of the 9 and another from the hair into the field under the cap. Slightly glossy very dark olive brown and steel. Sharpness EF40 with minor roughness in the fields and protected areas, strongest at the cap where there is some shallow verdigris. The only marks are a tiny scratch right of the Y in LIBERTY and a thin planchet crease in the dentils above ERT (as struck). Mostly glossy medium brown and light chocolate fading to darker chocolate brown in protected areas. Decent eye appeal in spite of the surface issues. Nicely struck E-MDS, Breen state IV.  Lot 262 - united states liberty cap cents - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #841794 S-60 R3 NCS/NGC VG Details Corroded. Rotated Reverse. Slightly glossy dark steel brown and chocolate with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. The surfaces are covered with fine roughness but no verdigris, and the only mark is a pit in the field close below the chin. The date is nearly worn smooth showing only parts of a few numerals, and no more than half of the legends remain easily readable. What makes this cent special is the rotated dies. The reverse is rotated 70 degrees CW relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. While lesser rotations are known for this variety, none of those is more than 45 degrees.
