1852 N-6 R2 MS64. Highly lustrous bluish steel brown and chocolate with 15% of the original mint red remaining. No spots, stains, or contact marks; essentially flawless. The eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. LDS, die state c, with a large rim cud break from just below star 9 to star 12. CC#3 overall but second finest of those known with the large rim cud in the Grellman census. Removed from a PCGS slab graded MS65RB (PCGS old green label #1899.65/9239519 included).

1852 N-20 R4 F15. Sharper by at least 5 points but there are several rim nicks and light rim bruises on the obverse, especially from star 1 to the date. No roughness. Glossy light olive and steel brown. Rare LDS, die state c, with two rim cud breaks on the obverse, one at star 8 and another at star 11. Both cuds are clearly defined but each has a few light contact marks. Tied for CC#9 for the die state in the Grellman census.

1853 N-13 R1 Repunched 1 MS60. Lustrous steel brown with bluish steel overtones on the reverse. Traces of mint color remain visible on the obverse and at least a third of the reverse shows bright original mint red. A wisp of darker olive brown toning in the field between stars 4 & 5 is the only distracting mark. MDS, die state b. The repunching on the base of the 1 is clear. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS63RB (NGC label #556220-012 included, and it shows the attribution).

1852 N-15 R3 NGC graded MS63 Brown. Choice glossy light to medium chocolate brown. Underlying mint frost shows through in the fields and a hint of faded mint color remains visible on the left side of the reverse. This cent is sharply struck and it offers outstanding eye appeal. The only marks are a dull, shallow rim nick at the first S in STATES and a small spot of reddish chocolate brown toning over NE in ONE. Rare EDS, die state a. The die lines at the base of the N in ONE are clear. Our grade is AU58. Not in the overall condition census for the variety but tied for third finest known of the EDS in the Grellman census. The attribution is shown on the NGC label.

1853 N-10 R1 Repunched Date PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown. Lustrous bluish steel brown and light olive with mellowed mint red covering at least 25% of the obverse and 10% of the reverse. Nearly flawless. A tiny nick on the upper right point of star 3 is a good identifying mark, but you need a glass to see it. MDS, die state b. The repunching is still visible on all 4 digits, clearest on the 18. Our grade is MS63.

Two tiny nicks on the rim over TE in UNITED are the notable marks. MDS, die state b. The dull die lines from the dentils at stars 4 & 12 are weak but visible.

1852 N-10 R2+ PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with underlying lighter reddish brown toning in protected areas. Possibly lightly cleaned long ago but the color and eye appeal are quite nice. A faint speck of darker toning in the field off the tip of the coronet is a good identifying mark, but it is visible only under strong magnification. Sharply struck EDS, die state a, with short die lines from the dentils at stars 1 & 2. Removed from an ICG slab graded MS63BN (ICG label #1419983101 included). Our grade is MS60 sharpness net AU58 for the light cleaning. Tied for CC#10 in the Grellman census. The attribution is shown on the PCGS label.

1853 N-3 R1 Repunched 1 NGC graded MS66 Brown. Beautiful and highly lustrous light bluish steel brown with traces of faded mint color in a few of the most-protected areas. The only marks are a thin vertical nick midway between star 3 and the lips plus a few very shallow planchet flakes on the rim and dentils from the date to star 3 and another just past star 6 (as struck). Sharply struck E-MDS. The repunching over the base of the 1 is clear and die clashmarks are visible on both sides. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#2 honors with several other examples in the Grellman census.

1853 N-20 R3 Boldly Repunched 53 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Choice lustrous steel brown and light chocolate. Peeps of mint red remain visible on both sides and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The only mark is a thin vertical nick on the cheek right of the nostril. E-MDS, die state b early. The fine die lines at RI in AMERICA are gone but the repunching under the 53 remains obvious. Our grade is AU58+, very close to MS60. The attribution is shown on the PCGS label.
