Attractive frosty medium chocolate brown with underlying mint luster in the protected areas on both sides. Just a few trivial marks from flawless. The notable ones are a faint hint of reddish chocolate toning in the field before the lips and a tiny nick on the coronet over the L in LIBERTY. MDS, die state b, with a die crack from the coronet through star 5 to the dentils over star 4. The dies are unclashed. Tied for CC#14 in the Grellman census. Comes with a nice provenance. Beautiful lustrous mint red mellowing to steel brown and light olive on the devices with about half the mint red remaining. No spots or stains, only a few trivial contact marks. A very light nick left of star 6, a couple microscopic marks in the field off the chin, and a light scuff on the E in ONE can help identify this cent. Sharply struck EDS, die state a, with crisp diagonal die lines from the dentils at star 13. A beautiful cent, close to MS64. CC#3 in the Grellman census. Frosty medium steel brown and light chocolate with traces of faded mint color remaining, mostly on the obverse. No spots or stains and only a few trivial marks. The notable defects are a tiny planchet void (as struck) in the field over the right point of star 2 and nicks on the 185 in the date. Sharply struck EDS, die state a. This is a rare die state for the variety and it clearly shows the fine repunching at the dentils under the 1 and the top of a stray 1 imbedded in the bust over the left side of the 8. Very attractive and nearly void of marks or other defects. A thin horizontal nick on the eyebrow, a microscopic speck of darker toning just above the center of the eyebrow, and a speck of carbon just left of the O in ONE are the best identifying marks, and they are barely visible. MDS, die state b. The horizontal line at the dentils under the 1 is clear and repunching on the other 3 digits remains visible. Lustrous steel brown with subtle overtones of light bluish steel. Traces of faded mint color can be found in protected areas on the reverse. Choice except for a splash of carbon on the curl over the 2, a smaller spot of carbon on the cheek, and a half dozen specks of carbon inside the wreath. LDS, die state c (Newcomb's old #13). The repunching at the 18 is gone and a die crack extends from the tip of the bust through star 1 to the dentils at star 2. Our grade is net MS60.
