lot # 999 - Canada
Stampless Postal History, 1854 (September): folded cover to Paris, postmarked with Goderich double split-ring despatch, the country not having been specified and thus erroneously directed to Paris, Upper Canada, where it was postmarked on September 11, with "missent to" in manuscript written alongside, "France" added alongside address and sent onwards to the proper destination, via Great Britain, with Oct 2 c.d.s. transit backstamp, struck with red framed "CANADA / &c ART.12" and "Angl/Calais" entry c.d.s. (3 Oct), Paris (3 Oct) backstamp, notation added in manuscript indicating the recipient had left for Corbeil, with next-day c.d.s. arrival backstamp, hole on reverse from removal of seal, and flaps removed for easy opening for display, an otherwise fine and scarce misdirected cover.
